TOPIC: FOLLOWING JESUS
TEXT: ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’ – Matthew 4:19.

According to our scripture, Jesus was moving from place to place, preaching about God’s kingdom, and one day He arrived at the Sea of Galilee. He saw Simon Peter and Andrew, his brother, casting their net into the sea and James and John preparing their net with their father. Both groups were made up of fishermen. He summoned them and told them to follow Him. He also promised to make them fishers of men. They immediately abandoned their nets and followed Jesus.

Jesus said they would no longer be fishermen, but fishers of men meant that they would be His messengers. They would accompany Him preaching, teaching, and leading people to God’s kingdom. Their lives were never the same after they started following Jesus. As we follow Jesus, many good things begin to happen to us. As we follow Jesus, many wrong things lose their power over us.

Dear friend, it pays to follow Jesus. But how do we follow him? We follow him by obeying his counsel. We follow him by yielding to his will. We follow him by honouring his word in all things. We follow him by making him the Lord of our lives. We follow him by loving what he loves and hating what he hates.

There is a sure blessing for all who choose to follow Jesus.

In the name of Jesus, I am determined to follow Jesus Christ all the days of my life. Lord, in everything, Lord, I choose your will. Help me, Lord.
