Topic: GET YOUR SPIRITUAL FOCUS RIGHT (Part 1)

Text: “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 11:1, ICB.

Some believers today have become distracted in their Christian walk because they were disappointed by elders in the faith that they made their focus.

We must be careful of how we focus on people; the word of God must be the ultimate standard. We must let the wisdom of God’s word guide us, and we should be able to judge others using the word of God as the sole standard.

Dear friend, if others have decided to fail God, don’t allow their wrong actions and decisions to distract you; their decisions should not become your focus. More so, scripture never advises us to follow or imitate others without a central focus on Christ; we are advised to pattern our lives after others as they pattern their lives after Christ.

If we don’t see the character of Christ in people, following their examples becomes an ungodly thing to do.

According to 1 Samuel 3:12, the Bible makes it clear that at this time, Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of Eli, were evil in their ways. They were employed in the service of the house of God, and these men conducted themselves terribly in their assignment, yet Samuel never followed their example. They may have been more experienced in the matters of the temple, yet it was not justification for Samuel to blindly follow them even when it was apparent their acts were evil and against God.

Be careful who you copy after. Be intentional only to follow those who follow Christ. Do not ignore the fruits in the lives of people. You have only one life to live; make sure it’s a life that truly honours the Lord in all things.
