When a Christian fails to understand what distinguishes them from the rest of the world, they will adopt the ways of the world. By adopting many worldly ideologies, Christians today are becoming more secular than ever.

One common ideology to justify a false narrative is “Heaven helps those who help themselves.” Sure, it sounds right, but it is being advanced mostly for the wrong narrative. While many people may see this as a narrative of responsibility and initiative, it is not fitting for a Christian. You cannot become your source of help; God is our source of help. This is an understanding every child of God must not deviate from; God helps those who cannot help themselves. We will continue to receive God’s help as we rely on His grace. (2 Corinthians 12:9). We must be careful of ideologies that ‘appear’ to be correct and judge them in light of the scriptures.

So, this ideology of “heaven helps those who help themselves” has become a reference that many use to justify engaging in ungodly acts believing that God will only help you if you do “something.” Many people rely on this ideological position as an excuse not to wait on the Lord for direction and counsel. We must be vigilant not to adopt theories not founded on God’s Word.

I want to conclude today’s devotional by reminding us of our Bible texts for today in 2 Corinthians 6:17-18, ICB, which says: “Leave those people and make yourselves pure, says the Lord. Touch nothing that is unclean, and I will accept you. I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord All-Powerful.”

Dear friend, no matter what, if you stand for God, he will stand with you.
