Topic: EXCEEDING JOY (Part 1)

Text: “If a person believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from his heart.” – John 7:38

Joy is a fruit of the spirit. Joy is also a consequence of spending time in God’s presence. The Bible says in Psalm 16:11 there is fullness of joy in the presence of God.

The dictionary describes joy as a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. But the Bible sees it as more than that.

Joy is a product of the spirit of God on the inside of us, beyond our feelings or emotions.

While happiness may come from events, possessions or people, joy in the spirit is beyond what goes on outside.

Joy from God’s spirit bubbles up inside us as a spring of living waters that flows into our situation, emotions, and people around us. The joy God’s spirit gives is an influence from the Holy Spirit that is so strong and definite that when you feel it, you know it comes from God’s spirit.

As we study God’s Word and remember his promises, as we fellowship with the Holy Spirit and with other saints, joy is naturally released from our spirit.
