Topic: FIRST THINGS FIRST (Part 4)

Text: “I will give you a burnt offering. I will sacrifice the first thing that comes out of my house to meet me when I return from the victory, it will be the Lord’s”- Judges 11:31, ICB.

Jephthah, the great warrior, was chosen to lead a battle against the Amorites. The spirit of God was upon him, and he had all he needed to win. (Judges 11)

But in his over-zealousness, he made a vow to God without thinking of the consequences. He promised to give God the first thing that walked out of his house, forgetting that his beloved daughter and others lived there. 

He loved his daughter but forgot about her in his zeal and thirst for a victory that was already guaranteed.

Just like Jephthah, we sometimes forget those dear to us in our zeal to work for God, and this causes negative consequences, which can lead to misunderstandings and even losses like Jephthah faced.

As we chase exploits for God’s kingdom, let us not sacrifice relationships with those God has placed as a family to us. It is important to make time for them, considering their needs while seeking to please God.

Think of those dear to you and plan to do something special to appreciate and spend time with them.  

Wisdom Push:

God cares about our relationships, and we should be careful to nurture relationships on earth as we seek heaven.

Today’s Declaration:

Lord Jesus, I receive your grace and wisdom to build and not abuse important relationships.
