TOPIC: MATURING IN FAITH (Part 1)

Text: “You are still not spiritual. You have jealousy and arguing among you. This shows that you are not spiritual…” – 1 Corinthians 3:3, ICB.

For every Christian, spiritual growth must be continuous and gradual, and it must be the result of the work of the Holy Spirit.

There is something remarkable that Apostle Paul mentioned in 1 Corinthians 3:1-6. He discussed his ministerial efforts over God’s people and how he was disappointed by their lack of spiritual maturity.

The apostle Paul noticed a lack of desire for spiritual growth and that they continued to act like worldly people. He stated that the people were still prone to jealousy, strife, and bitterness among themselves.

But it is worth noting what Apostle Paul said about the people. He said, “Some of you say I am a follower of Paul, and others say I am a follower of Apollos.” Paul then emphasised that neither he nor Apollos deserved such attention because they were simply servants doing what God asked them to do. He proceeded to say, “I planted the seed of the teaching in you, and Apollos watered it, But God is the one who made the seed grow.”

This is the crucial issue. When we, as believers, sincerely focus on Christ and surrender to the ministry of the Holy Spirit, we will consistently experience the spiritual growth that only God can provide. We must be mindful of human distractions. Instead of focusing on Christ, the people focused on Apollos and Paul.

God uses His servants to teach and guide us, but we will experience true spiritual growth if we focus on Him.

TODAY’S TASK:

Assess yourself to see how many believers you are nurturing in the faith.

WISDOM PUSH:

When Jesus Christ is the focus, authentic spiritual growth occurs naturally.

TODAY’S DECLARATION

In the name of Jesus, I reject backwardness in my spiritual life.
