Topic: THE MIND OF LEADERSHIP (Part 12)

Text: “He who serves you as a servant is the greatest among you.” – Matthew 23:11, ICB.

There is so much to learn from the account of the earthly ministry of Jesus. We see his love for his Father, his love for others, and so much more. One aspect worth noting is the wisdom and selflessness he demonstrated as a leader.

His leadership example demonstrated service. Jesus served his disciples and instructed them to do the same. God’s word describes how Jesus Christ stooped to wash the feet of his disciples with dignity and grace.

We see this account in John 13:4-5 ICB. It says, “So during the meal, Jesus stood up and took off his outer clothing. Taking a towel, he wrapped it around his waist. Then, he poured water into a bowl and began to wash the followers’ feet. He dried them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”

True leaders, like Jesus Christ, do not simply wait to be served; instead, they seek opportunities to serve, enjoy serving, and inspire others to serve.

Let us learn from the example of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Mark 9:35, Jesus gave his disciples a powerful piece of advice, informing them that service is the path to growth.

Here is what he said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be content to be last and become a servant to all.” (TPT). This is God’s wisdom for us today: embrace and love service, seek opportunities to serve, and keep serving.

Reexamine what service means to you. What are the top three places you are currently providing volunteer services?

Lord Jesus, teach me to have your mind for service and to see service to others the way you see it.
