Topic: THE WAY OF THE BELIEVER (Part 3)

Text: “But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.” – Genesis 2:17, NKJV.

As we study God’s word in Genesis, we learn from the beginning how God gave clear instructions to the first man and that there were boundaries not to be crossed for his good. Honouring that instruction from the Lord would sustain peace, authority and ease in man’s life.

But Adam and Eve were deceived to disregard God’s instruction. The scripture tells us that man fell after he went against God’s word about what must not be consumed. However, we thank God for the gift of redemption through Christ, through which we have been restored and can no longer be victims of the errors of the first man.

As believers, we must remain mindful that there is what God has asked us not to ‘eat’, and eating such things has implications. It will affect the quality of our lives. We learn from 1 Samuel 15 and 19 that King Saul went against what God asked him not to touch, costing him his throne. 

As believers, we are slaves to righteousness; we do as the Word of God commands through the leading of the Holy Spirit. We don’t have alternatives – God’s way must be our only way.

Today’s word is God admonishing us to be mindful of what we give attention to and consume. Our lives will continue to go from glory to glory as we honour God’s counsel.

Take some time to reflect on God’s word in Matthew 22:37.
