Topic: THINGS OF GREATER VALUE (Part 1)

Wrong priorities have ruined more people than a lack of anything. Many problems come from having the wrong priorities. One of the common challenges we face today is that many people do not know what is most important in their lives; as a result, you see people chasing after what can wait until later and abandoning what is more important. We waste valuable time and resources when we fail to prioritize our lives.

According to God’s Word in 1 Kings 3, young Solomon had assumed the leadership of Israel after the death of his Father, David. He had an encounter with the Lord, who told him to ask him anything he wanted. Solomon asked the Lord for an understanding mind and a hearing heart. God was pleased with Solomon’s request because he did not ask for wealth, long life, or the death of his enemies. From God’s response, it was clear that Solomon knew what was of greater value. The Lord told him, “I will give you what you asked for and add much more.”

While Solomon had the freedom to request anything material, he recognized that there were things more important to him as King of Israel. He knew that if he had the wisdom of God, nothing else would be a challenge or a deficiency in his life. Solomon asked for something more valuable: God’s wisdom. When we make them our focus, there are things that will attract many other good things we desire.

Today, the Lord is telling us to pay attention to what is more important and identify what is less important. Remember, many problems come from having the wrong priorities.
