It takes meekness to receive the Word. Meekness means having a humble heart and a teachable spirit (the willingness to learn). Those who enjoy God’s heart are not merely those who are present in church, but those who are meek at heart. There must be a willingness to make adjustments, listening to God, and being ready to respond in obedience.
Β
Jesus came to ensure that we do not follow laws that are merely set and written, but laws written in our hearts. We do not respond to be righteous; we respond because we are righteous.
Β
Another way to receive God’s Word is to receive it with prayer. In every message that the Lord gives to a general assembly, there is a specific word within that Word for every person. Prayer awakens your spirit to the voice of God. Your heart is like soil, and prayer prepares the soil to receive the Word. The Word of God is the seed, and the soil must be prepared for it.
Β
Prayer opens our spiritual ears and eyes. Prayer welcomes the ministry of the Holy Spirit, who will interpret the Word to you and make it ever fresh.
