“Let us hold firmly to the hope that we have confessed. We can trust God to do what he promised.” — Hebrews 10:23 (ICB)
Every believer needs to understand the primary strategy of the devil: he comes for the Word.
He cannot stop you from hearing the Word. He cannot stop you from attending church or listening to sermons. But once you have received the Word, he will come to steal it. His goal is to make you lose your grip on what God has said. He wants you to begin asking, “Does this really work?” or “Why do I even go to church?”
The enemy feels he has gained ground the moment you start doubting God’s promises. That is why Hebrews exhorts us to hold firmly to our confession of hope. The devil wants you to doubt the Word, but the truth remains: the Word of God works.
Everything God does, He does through His Word. Every season He changes, He changes by His Word. The question is whether we will believe that what God has spoken is true.
Consider Mary. How did she step into fulfillment? She embraced God’s Word and responded:
“Be it unto me according to your word.”
Faith begins when we agree with what God has said.
As believers, we must recognize the enemy’s tactics. Often, after seasons of intense prayer, worship, or spiritual growth, challenges arise. This does not mean the Word is not working. In many cases, it is evidence that the enemy is trying to slow you down or make you retreat.
Look at Jesus in Matthew 4. Immediately after His baptism, His first major encounter was with the devil. Satan tried to shake His foundation, but Jesus answered every temptation with, “It is written.” His grip on the Word was stronger than the circumstances He faced.
It is possible to hear God’s Word throughout the week and then face one challenge that makes you act as though God never spoke. The children of Israel experienced this repeatedly. Yet Abraham was different—he held firmly to God’s promise even when circumstances suggested otherwise.
There is how you feel as a human being, and there is how you feel because of your grip on the Word. Your confidence in God rests on three things:
- His Integrity – God cannot lie.
- His Authority – His Word carries all power.
- His Love – He is committed to your good.
The Word of God works. Let your life become a reflection of it.
Isaac was born because Abraham held on to God’s promise. What God says, He performs.
Psalm 34:5 declares:
“They looked to Him and were radiant; their faces were never covered with shame.”
When you look to God’s Word, you are strengthened. You are encouraged. You become radiant with hope.
Therefore, as the Word comes, believe it. Let your grip on the Word be stronger than your feelings, stronger than your fears, and stronger than your circumstances.
God has spoken, and His Word will not return to Him void. Hold on to it, trust it, and watch Him bring it to pass.
